It will go nowhere, dems don't have the votes and McConnell won't even bring it to the floor.

Good info. Knowledge is power.
Did he say that ANY pistol weighing over 50 oz's unloaded would be banned?

Dont get soft and think this cant happen. Our legislators have a mind of their own and DO NOT have your best interest at heart.

Why doesn't 2A also cover sharp pointy things? When did the definition of arms change to only include guns?

This probably should be moved to the politics section.

Key provisions:

Bans the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name. Owners may keep existing weapons.
Bans any assault weapon that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock. Owners may keep existing weapons.
Bans magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, which allow shooters to quickly fire many rounds without needing to reload. Owners may keep existing magazines.

Exemptions to bill:

The bill exempts by name more than 2,200 guns for hunting, household defense or recreational purposes.
The bill includes a grandfather clause that exempts all weapons lawfully possessed at the date of enactment.

Other provisions:

Requires a background check on any future sale, trade or gifting of an assault weapon covered by the bill.
Requires that grandfathered assault weapons are stored using a secure gun storage or safety device like a trigger lock.
Prohibits the transfer of high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Bans bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates.

Updates to Assault Weapons Ban of 2017:

Bans stocks that are “otherwise foldable or adjustable in a manner that operates to reduce the length, size, or any other dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability of a firearm.”
Bans assault pistols that weigh 50 or more ounces when unloaded, a policy included in the original 1994 ban.
Bans assault pistol stabilizing braces that transform assault pistols into assault rifles by allowing the shooter to shoulder the weapon and fire more accurately.
Bans Thordsen-type grips and stocks that are designed to evade a ban on assault weapons.

Unfortunately, I could see something like this passing in the current political climate.

The democrats can leverage Trump with this to end the govt shutdown. He gets the wall and they get their control. He was perfectly fine with signing the bump stocks away.
Classifying a bump stock as a machine gun is absurd. Even if the bump stock is idle and not attached to anything It's still classified legally as a machine gun. Its a piece of plastic plastic! They are literally changing the meaning of words at this point.

Lets say it does pass. According to the bill everyone gets to keep their current weapons, but you cannot trade them or sell them.

I hope i'm wrong.

According to the dictionary definition of arms, it does cover pointy things. The 1773 edition of Samuel Johnson's dictionary ( virtually unchanged from the current Mirram-Webster definition) is "weapons of offense or armour of defence". Sounds like it covers anything from a pointed stick to a spear and anything in between.

Dianne Feinstein Pushes Ban on Devices that Increase Pistol Accuracy

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) “assault weapons” ban includes a prohibition against certain devices that increase pistol accuracy.

On January 11, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Feinstein wants to ban 205 commonly owned semiautomatic rifles. In the press release announcing the proposed ban, she also calls for prohibitions against “stabilizing braces” that allow “assault pistols” to “fire more accurately.”

Furthermore, her ban would prohibit stocks that are “foldable or adjustable in a manner that operates to reduce the length, size, or any other dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability of a firearm.”
