Local High School Is sending a terrible message.l

Postby Diggin4copper » Mon Oct 09, 2017

I drove by a local High School yesterday and there was an electric sign under their school sign. The message scrolling on it was "The tassel is worth the hassle".
I think that's a horrible message to send to young High School students. They should be told hard work pays off later in life. Or something like that.. not an apology from the Faculty... I think it should say "shut up sit down and listen". We are so screwed as a country......rant over...

I think 'the tassel is worth the hassle' is saying working to graduation (the tassel) is worth the effort (the hassle) and pays off in the future (the worth). I do not see an apology at all. Help me with your view.

On first view, it sounds like that, but think about it..
The people in charge are admitting that they are hassling the kids..
School is supposed to be a place to learn, not endure...

And if todays kids think that school is a hassle, just wait until they enter the real world work force.
Now thats a big hassle and its for a lifetime :|

Many don't have to work, look at the laziness of societies/cultures, technology keeps making life easier and easier, robotics, outsourcing, plastics, CAFO farms, automation. One example is the Chinese 1 child policy, Mom and Dad are leaving back huge estates, here in the U.S. all you need to do is get by, I've met homeless people who are happier than people I work with. The hassle I see many being challenged with these days is just maintaining their health.

I agree with diggin regarding the hassle of tassel, some older and wiser folks, they grew up when education was less a right and more of a luxury. Not everyone could afford to spend their days sitting around in the schoolhouse, being, um, err hassled by teachers, might I say a profession that is earning less respect and wages itself as we go forward.

The most expensive doughnut in the world is covered in 24-karat gold

The priciest doughnut on the planet is filled with champagne and topped with 24-karat gold.

It's called the Golden Cristal Ube, and a dozen will set you back $1,200.

Oreo is giving away $100,000 if you can guess its ‘mystery’ flavor

Nabisco's Oreo brand cookies just unveiled a new challenge: Correctly guess its new mystery flavor, and you could win up to $50,000.

According to the brand's contest website, one person could win the grand prize of $50,000, and five others could win $10,000 first prizes.

To submit a guess, contestants can purchase Oreo's new "Mystery" package, taste the cookies and submit their answer on Oreo's website.

curious if anyone has any experience with a new medical ...

Postby mnymgr1 » Mon Oct 16, 2017

device called The Watchmen ???
It is a small balloon like device that dr's implant in a part of the heart described to me as the appendix of the heart.
Doesn't have a function that they know about but a lot of blood clots form inside this ventricle.
They put the Watchmen at the opening, it balloons up and voila, no more blood clot worries.
Heart Blood clots cause about 50% of strokes and using this device will take that 50% down 90%.
As dear ole dad is on Eliquis but needs to get off after years of usage (to ward off clots), this is what they suggest.

I personally think my father is a cash cow for the dr's, hospitals, etc. and now a guinea pig.
Only 130 of these have been used in IL to date and there will be multiple dr's in the room learning the technique.
At 'only' $20k just for the device, it's a steal right

I don't know about "The Watchmen", but I spent over 5 years of my career working on Eliquis. Great drug when you compare it to the older standard warfarin. $20,000 for a device... vs $50,000 plus potential changes in quality of life for a stroke... This is the core of what insurance companies and doctors do- is the change/risk worth the benefit? Each individual patient is different, but when you look across a patient population, trend-lines appear (epidemiology).
