Can they keep the USD alive?

Do you see the USD (as it is today) surviving for another 5 years? There is a similarish poll but let's do a fresh one. That one is almost 5 years old and things have surely changed. :grinch:

I don't think you'll get many people to go against the USD with a 5 year window. Which got me thinking, what time frame does the answer to the question start to get a little more difficult to predict? For me it's around 20 years, the deficit will likely double again 40T+ and a the debt bubble will be crazy hard for TPTB to maintain.

I need to get to work on my redoubt/hermitage.

I voted 5 years, but I think Rik is right.....20 years is probably more likely. Hang on to your wheelbarrels.

5 years may be too short but "nuttin' lasts forever".

Stash cash. Gold and silver will depreciate %50. An economy needs cash.

I agree with Ron Pauls assessment that the petrodollar is key and when that structure is replaced with another currency ,its over. Watch for a {Gold backed} Yuan denominated oil exchange and you will have a time frame.I doubt the Chinese intend to wait {and waste} much longer....The end will come quickly when a Gold backed currency competes with a fiat currency .....which would you rather hold?
