How cheap are you?

Postby eventurer » Wed Sep 30, 2015

Wanted to see how "normal" I am here... Know I am not normal in the general population.

I would say I am frugal not cheap. My wife would say different....

I am willing to accept a lower quality item for a lower price on some things. I also do things like double brew my K cups, tear paper towels in half etc. I won't make the TV show Exreme cheapskates but they have some good ideas sometimes.

In the winter we set our thermostat at 56 degrees and use our wood burning fire place for heat and use a space heater occasionally rather then heating up the whole house. Luckily wife likes it cold too but in summer I have threatened to put lock box on thermostat.

One reason I am frugal is so can spend money on some nicer things. Would I rather have X or Y. Would I rather have a vanilla latte every day or oz of silver a week... Or Like I tell my wife would rather leave the lights on have a new car!
How do you go bankrupt? First gradually, then suddenly....

You can save some money on those K-cups by switching to a reusable one.

That being said, there is a great book called "The Complete Tightwad Gazette" that I highly recommend. I read it a long time ago and now I have a hankering to read it again.

As far as I'm concerned, I spend wayyy too much money on things that are otherwise avoidable. I could easily make my own lunch, but I don't.

Heck, maybe I'll do that for tomorrow.

Sir K-cups aren't cheap...do the math and they are costly to the environment.

I don't know what 'this' is ??? picture above ^

and yes, I am uber cheap :-) but like to call myself frugal

and yes, k-cups are cheap if you buy from a retailer going out of business like I posted a month ago  . have about 2 years of those in stock, cost less than 10c each.

yes, do reuse a k-cup once in a while, wife sets the water to 1-3 setting when our machine goes to 5. i'll run a #2 thru it if I'm hankering for a bit more coffee, I'm happily down to 2 normal sized cups in the morning.

I use the reusable K-cups and buy my coffee in large containers on sale. I never really figured out the cost per use but its "cheap" one large can can last me a month or so and I drink like 3 coffees a day or more . One large can of Folders on sale is $7 ca so thats like .23 cents a day or about .08 cents per cup I think although math wasn't my strongest subject.

Plus I drink it black, so no extra cost of cream/sugar... hmmm maybe I am 'cheap"

Paying $5 for a coffee at Starbucks is also insanity.

I have a 4 liter jug of tap water i keep in my fridge, I think i paid .99 cents 2 years ago for the jug of water , makes a great water jug for your fridge, although I think I will buy another jug soon, my water stains the inside slightly over time. Just have to come up with the .99 cents... ;)

But I do recall using cloth diapers when my daughter was a baby. It wasn't too bad once you get use to it.
