Re: coin star finds...
Not coin star but I spied a wheat cent in the take-a-penny tray and asked to trade out a shield cent which was OK with the clerk. 1951 D looks to be around fine or maybe a little better. Meh, but had a nice discussion about coins with the clerk so maybe that was the best payoff.

I got a little excited last night, I thought I saw a gold coin about 1/4 to 1/2 oz size in the coinstar tray in my local Vons. Unfortunately, it was a rest room token
, but I found a proof rosie dime in the their parking lot that more than evened it out.

Dude! You are on a roll. Did you buy a lottery ticket?

Some (greedy heartless bastard) businesses in SoCal , have a lock mechanism with a coin slot on their restroom door, you have to pay a quarter or ask the "attendant " for a token to enter and use their usually nasty facilities.
I think the intent is to keep out the homeless and "non customers". Many businesses here have "rest rooms for customers only" signs along with the "pay to play" thing.

They are becoming very common in WA State because of the influx of tweekers and homeless. McDonalds and other fast food restaurants are starting to use them. You need to either get a token when you order your food or bring your receipt to the counter and ask for one. It's kind of weird and awkward if ya ask me. Order your food, then be like "BTW, I'm gonna need to drop a massive deuce after this BigMac, so hook me up with a token plz"

I still help an elderly man with his Coinstar trips. He gave me a 1921-s Walking Liberty half dollar. I should start a type set book with all of the goodies that he's been giving me.

Sounds more like elder abuse than a coinstar find to me, maybe there is more to the story?

He had a garage full water jugs filled with change. He has been collecting for decades. His family won't help him. I met him a few years ago.
He lets me keep any silvers or anything else that is interesting. We take a certain amount of coins to various locations.
