Given current growth rate I should hit my original goal 500 pounds Wednesday evening. So what is my guess for final weight? Well I don't know if it is accurate but I know what I want....and I want the state record by 300 pounds. Peddle to the metal fellas!

1742 pounds

Doc,

You said this is your first time, and now you want the state record by 300 lbs? .....you are just trying to piss someone off!!!

Somehow I get the impression you [Rodebaugh] did a wee bit of learning before you started this project. :shifty:

This has the makings of a science fiction movie. The way that thing is growing, you'd better lock the doors at night.

How much land has been occupied to support this behemoth? And do you plan to expand the fence area or has it stopped spreading? What do people "do" with these pumpkins when they ripen? Giant Jack-o-Lanterns? Pumpkin pie for the whole town? :?:

720 square feet currently. I will not increase the fenced in area this season. The main vine and 3 secondaries are still growing.

When ripened (if it makes it)....I will take it to the weigh off. There I will be lifted upon shoulders in celebratory song, given a ribbon, and a hefty check.

BUT.... my plant has a nasty fungal infection. I'm loosing 4-8 old main vine leaves a day. If I can't get this under control all old growth will be dead by the end of the month with the plant soon there after. I just got back from the house (on lunch break). I coated the entire patch in a heavy dosage of DACONIL. I'll likely do the worst parts again in 2-4 days. Fingers crossed fellas. Not my first dance with "issues" but the nastiest I have faced yet by far.

Today is also DAP-30.......So expect a size and weight estimate this evening. Hopefully we are still doing 25-30# per day.

Numbers are in:

DAP-30 OTT-(269) 114-77-78.....433 pounds

That is 29.3lbs/day for DAP 20-30. Good considering that I have removed 34 nice old growth leaves. Do I still think that I will/can hit that 1742# mark. Nope, never did.....but that is weight I want.

Picture of one of the leaves removed. I believe this to be Alternaria disease. Obviously infected leaves have been completely removed and Daconil (Chlorothalonil) fungicide has been sprayed.

I see that I wasn't that far off after all, just 70 pounds over.

We still have 86 days left until I cut it of the vine for the weighoff. So you are still in the running.

But....I hope to pass by your guess before weeks end. :shifty:
