What's the temp/forecast in your neighborhood?

-18 right now, -35 tomorrow. With the wind chill, of course.

Gawd! where's that?

Southeast Michigan. Its pretty brutal but folks a few States west of us have it a lot worse.

Puma is releasing self-lacing smart shoes to take on Nike

Puma is about to release it's own self-lacing training shoes that will rival Nike's high-tech sneakers that can do the same.

Puma's smart shoes, called the Fi, are connected to its app which enables the laces to be tightened or loosened with the swipe of a finger. It currently only works with an Apple iPhone or Apple Watch, but will soon be available on Android phones too.

We received an emergency alert last night mandating that everyone turn their thermostats to 65 degrees or lower through today. There was a fire at a compressor station that has apparently required the natural gas companies to run on reserves. Hopefully our furnace keeps running.

The worst of all possible conditions....0 degrees, high winds, a fire in a paper mill. It started at 5pm last night, it's still burning this morning. Total loss. 500 jobs. No deaths. Embers set 2 houses and the town hall on fire.

"Drivers on Route 80 said they could feel the intense heat emanating from the scene from inside their cars on the highway."

Who Will Guard Us From The Guardians? YouTube "Protects" Users By Hiding "Conspiracy Theories"

Flat earth, 9/11 ‘inside job’, and the Kennedy assassination ‘cover-up’. These are just some of the ‘conspiracy theories’ that YouTube will baby proof going forward, hiding such content from users as if they were not cognitively thinking adults capable of making rational decisions.

Educated? When was the last time you clicked on a news article about a college and it had ANYTHING to do with education? ;)

I'm interested to see the follow-up on this. My son is in the middle of his freshman year in college and I'd like the message to be that you SHOULD NOT throw bottles at the cops who come to break up your ... whatever it was. We'll see.

PS Doc, just buy that rifle! It's awesome.

It was -14 here on Thursday and supposed to be in the low 50's tomorrow. Just a weird winter.

Grey squirrel is on the menu

They are often an unwanted visitor to gardens, thanks to their reputation for raiding bird feeders and stripping trees of bark.

But grey squirrels are finding a warmer welcome to the dining table, as chefs and retailers report increasing interest in eating the furry rodent.

The rise in popularity is believed to stem from diners’ growing interest in sustainable, cruelty-free food, which sees them turn to “wild meat” from animals which would have been culled anyway.

The grey squirrel is one such animal, classed as an invasive pest which has few predators in the wild and out competes the endangered red squirrel.

To reduce waste, chefs are using the carcasses of culled squirrels in pancakes, croquettes and even lasagne.

Chinese satellite snaps image of the Moon from the side we never see

Now, thanks to China’s efforts to learn as much as possible about the least-studied side of the Moon, we have a brand new view of it. The image, which was captured by the Longjiang-2 satellite that was sent skyward last year, even features Earth photobombing scene in the background.

The tiny imaging satellite was sent into space as part of China’s Chang’e-4 mission preparations. The country’s space agency sent communication hardware into lunar orbit so that it could relay information back and forth between the lander and rover on the Moon’s far side and engineers back on Earth.

It's been lightly humid 80's last 2 days, 70's at night. Nearly 40 degrees above norm. Very nice.

Netflix paid NOTHING in federal or state taxes in 2018 despite posting record profits of $845million - and even got a $22million rebate

The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy said corporations like Netflix are still 'exploiting loopholes' under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

Senior fellow Matthew Gardner said 'Netflix is precisely the sort of company that should be paying its fair share of income taxes' and called the figures 'troubling'
