Relevant (or not so relevant) and entertaining quotes

Postby Silvertongue » Mon Jul 15, 2013

I always enjoy the humor thread (almost) and thought we might try a favorite quote thread.

Here's one I ran across today:

"Government is the only institution that can take a valuable commodity like paper and make it worthless by applying ink." - Ludwig Von Mises

Just to make it interesting, I'll send a half ounce of silver to whoever comes up with the best attributed quote. Judging will be arbitrary and subjective and performed solely by the guy giving out silver. I'll let this ride until the end of July, then announce a winner.

Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers. ~ Voltaire

The length of a document defends it well against the risk of its being read. ~ Winston Churchill

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. ~ Samuel Adams
Silver: the Rodney Dangerfield of precious metals.

Be wary of he who would deny you access to information,
for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

Govenment's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Since we just had the All-Star Game, I think some Yogi quotes are needed:

It's like deja-vu all over again.

It gets late early out there.

When you arrive at a fork in the road, take it.

Baseball is 90 percent mental, and the other half is physical.

He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious.

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded. (My favorite)

And this one could be relevant for stackers:

If you don't know where you are going, you might end up someplace else.
