Email Notifications

Postby Familycoin » Fri Nov 27, 2015

I am no longer receiving emails when someone posts me a message on here. Is anyone else having this problem or is there something to fix this?

First make sure it's turned on.
Control Panel | Board Preferences tab | Allow users to send you private messages:

If set to Yes then send me a PM and I'll verify your email address.

I've noticed that I have to refresh my email to get notification, unlike before I get it automatically.

If you need to refresh your email then that would not be a BS issue. You should get an email when someone sends you a pm.

Same problem here. Have some pages here configured to get email notifications when new posts are made (yes, control panel is correct) but am no longer getting anything to my gmail address.

There might be a DNS issue. We're working with our host to verify this.

You guys who aren't getting notifications, are you using Live.com, Hotmail.com, or Outlook.com email addresses? Realcent has had issues multiple times with notification emails being blocked by those providers (they are all Microsoft).

Only a few folks have mentioned this and all of them, except for aumax, are using microsoft-related emails.

Yep, Microsoft likes to block stuff without sending bounce notifications back to the sender. It just disappears into a black hole. I'd switch to a Yahoo, Gmail, or ISP-provided email account and see if you start getting notifications again.

This what WiredTree had to say about it:

It looks like you didn't have an SPF record set up for that domain. SPF records are DNS records that are used by the receiving server to verify that mail they received is from a server that is authorized to send mail for a specific domain. I've set up an SPF record in your Grove for you for that domain (bullionstacker.com) which, once it propagates fully, should help with this problem.

I recommend using any email service other than microsoft. Hopefully this will eventually get resolved but I have very little faith in microsoft.

I also have a hotmail account. It's been getting about 10 spam emails an hour for the last few days so obviously those are more important to microsoft. I'm sure they make a ton of money off the spammers.

I also am not getting my PM's forwarded to my email, nor the new posting notifications. It has worked fine until about 10 days ago. Is there something that needs to be re-refreshed? I hope there is a solution.

You can read more about this issue here at RealCent:
http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=33101

Apparently, if you pay Microsoft $499 for professional support, they'll look into it. In the mean time you can either wait for Microsnot to stop censoring your emails or find another email provider.

I had the same problem with bellsouth.net. To solve the problem I opened a yahoo.com email address and then automatically forwarded the email from yahoo.com to my bellsouth.net address. Now I get the notifications on my bellsouth address that was originally blocked.
