Bitcoin ETFs Hit Regulatory Road Block

The race for the first bitcoin ETF has hit a regulatory speed bump.

In the past 24 hours, four prospective issuers withdrew requests at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for approval to list exchange-traded funds based on the largest cryptocurrency. Direxion Shares ETF Trust said the regulator “expressed concerns regarding the liquidity and valuation of the underlying instruments” its proposed fund would invest in.
...
But the SEC has not deviated from its skeptical view of the assets. Just Friday, the regulator issued a bipartisan endorsement of a warning on digital coins, saying investors should “exercise caution” as many participants in “cryptocurrency-related investment markets are not following” securities laws. In March, the watchdog rejected the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust ETF proposal.
...
More than 15 bitcoin-related ETFs have been proposed since 2013. On Monday, Exchange Listed Funds Trust said it withdrew its application for several ETFs based on the cryptocurrency at the request of the SEC. ProShares Trust on Tuesday pulled its request to list four bitcoin ETFs “in response to a request” by the SEC. VanEck Vectors ETF Trust also dropped its request Tuesday.

Cboe Global Markets Inc., the exchange operator that listed the first bitcoin futures, filed in mid-December for a proposed rule change to list and trade shares of the GraniteShares Bitcoin ETF and GraniteShares Short Bitcoin ETF. The application is pending.

As usual, fake news. They aren't readying any bill to ban crypto. Gov. just wants their money.

I wish I had a little cash, I'd like to buy .1 BTC to round out my BTC holdings. Right now, I'm buying SALT to be used for a new truck purchase. Almost 50% off using SALT, with a 1 year lockup of my BTC. L can live with that.

Well this just got interesting. Good find.

As I've said before, this will be a war. Perhaps more a philosophical war more than any other type. Governments have been able to track the vast majority of a consumer's spending through your bank records, credit card purchases, online subscriptions, etc. Banks have swindled us for hundreds of years. These two entities won't go away quietly, but they also can't stop blockchain technology no matter how hard they try. The more they fight it, the more people ask themselves why banks and governments (but I repeat myself) are so against free exchange between private parties.

In an official announcement, South Korean government reaffirms there will be NO TRADING BAN for #cryptocurrency market in the short term and NOTHING IS FINALIZED.

A petition to fire the head of the Ministry of Justice over the #cryptocurrency trading fiasco filed.

Huh, that post was positive for crypto? Basically said the earlier reports of a Korean ban are fake news.

See the wink at the end of my comment. (tdt is lightning-quick in posting bad news for crypto, ignoring good news, so I was being sarcastic)

tdtwedt wouldn't post an article like that, it is pro-bitcoin.

I love BCH. I think it has a bright future, and that BCH is closer to Nakamoto's dream than BCT. BCT is a dinosaur. I'm a hodler and despite it's shortcomings, I see no reason to sell BCT.

It pays to be a hodler, I love that free BCH. I decided I should take some money off the table, so I sold the BCH.

The postman just delivered 225 pristine BU Engelhard Prospectors, which are going to monster-box #2. The rest of the proceeds were used to purchase 735 SALT tokens. That is the lion's share of my new truck purchase for later this year.

Free money for hodling, discounted money for buying SALT, and free silver. How can it get any better?!
